Dr. John W. Oller

John W. Oller, Jr.

The entire field of Representational Research owes its foundation and early development to the genius of Dr. Oller, who first introduced the concepts of representational thinking, true narrative cases, triadic structures, and many others to professors and students at Trinity Southwest University in the early 1990s.  The debt that Representational Research owes to this fertile mind is immeasurable.

Oller, a twice endowed professor at the University of Louisiana, has been a professional researcher, teacher, author, mentor, administrator and change agent in higher education for more than five decades. He has been an invited guest speaker in Canada, China (Mainland), Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Quebec, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, and Thailand. His former students occupy positions of distinction at major institutions in the U. S. and around the world. He has appeared in nationally syndicated television and radio programs and serves as an expert consultant in the areas of his published works.

Current professional goals include: (1) Improving the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of the causes of communication disorders, especially autism, and related disease conditions; (2) Disseminating information concerning the critical role of ordinary true representations to all aspects of communication in physical, biological, linguistic and social systems.

Personal goal in his own words: “To do all in my power to maintain the faith, inspiration, and disciplines required to communicate effectively with the present generation for the sake of our children and children’s children—that they might enjoy the promise of abundant life according to a fully consistent understanding of and commitment to the biblical gospel as revealed in Jesus Christ.”

Specialties: Oller is a widely published peer-reviewed theoretician and researcher in language assessment, the logic of scientific measurement, general sign theory (i.e., theoretical semiotics including biosemiotics applied to genetics, epigenetics, immune systems, disease theory, communication disorders, and mortality), high stakes communication in global marketing, advertising, politics, social change, and the complexities of cyberspace communications.
