Dr. Peter Briggs



Dr. Peter Briggs serves as Minister of Church-Based Theological Education at THE FOOTHILLS, a Conservative Baptist church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also serves as Dean of the Institute of Church-Based Theological Education and Professor of Biblical & Theological Studies at Trinity Southwest University (TSU) in Albuquerque. He received his education in engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He served as a defense avionics systems engineer at General Electric in Binghamton, New York from 1960 until 1984. In 1984 he and his wife, Rosemarie, moved to Albuquerque and he began the second stage of his engineering career with Honeywell. In 1992 he left Honeywell in order to enter into full time ministry, and in 1993 he enrolled in a doctoral program at TSU, which at the time was a branch campus of Trinity College & Seminary in Newburg, Indiana. In 1994 he began serving as a full time staff member at TSU, which continued until 2003. In the arena of archaeology, he participated in the excavation at Bethsaida in Israel for two seasons in 1995 and 1996. Since 1996 he has served as Surveyor & Research Scientist for the Khirbet el-Maqatir Excavation Project in Israel. Beginning in 1998 he has also served as Instructor in the Associates for Biblical Research Field School at Yad Hashmonah in Israel. In 2001 he received his Master of Sacred Literature and Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Studies degrees from Trinity Theological Seminary, Newburg, Indiana. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Near Eastern Archaeological Society, and he has presented papers on his research at the national conferences of both societies in 2000 and 2001.
