In Whose Hand? – Job 12:10

Scripture “In whose hand is the soul of every living thing.”(Job 12:10).

In my early days of ministry there was a popular chorus that went something like this. “He holds the whole world in His hands, He holds the whole world in his hands,” and the more we sang it the more adrenalin was pumped through our system.

The verse under consideration reinforces the message of the chorus. The real question is, “Does the scripture support it?”

Israel is ready to make their great escape in Exodus chapter eleven. God demonstrated  His power with the ten plagues and, in the midst of all the excitement ,God assures Israel that  not a dog shall move its tongue(bark) (Exodus 11:7) Dogs are mentioned twenty times in the Bible and are classified as an “abomination” to the Lord. In spite of God’s apparent dislike for dogs, God will control their behavior so they will not bark and arouse suspicion among the Egyptians.

When Israel left Egypt and crossed the sea, a wall of water was “on their right hand and on their left.” (Exodus 14:22). Under normal conditions the water on the left should flow away from them but instead it became a wall, stood still. This is all the more miraculous when we remember that the eastern people believed that water is rebellion against God. However, the flood  responded  to God’s will. The Psalmist wrote, “God sits on the flood.” (Psalm 29:10). “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water, he turns it whithersoever he will” (Proverbs 21:1).The Lord is sovereign in every situation.

Christ controlled the preparation for the Passover by having a man carry a pitcher of water. This was a woman’s job not a man’s.

Yes, God is in control of every living thing and they respond to His will. There are no accidents because God does not treat His children recklessly. Believe this, watch for evidence of this in your life today and live your life accordingly.
