The Issue: What is the state of mind that a Christian must have in order to interact with the temporal world? There can be no possible question about whether or not we will interact with it. But how shall we interact is of great importance. So, we should inquire from the Scriptures about how we are required to live in a world of measurable realities, and still do it with faith.
Relativization of the Word of God is accomplished in several ways, but always by subjecting the Word to human constructs. We intend to use these categories as a basis for making an analysis of the various passages selected for this study. There can be more than these listed and please make use of any that you can think of that are not included in this inventory.
The Bible represents itself to be a true narrative representation from beginning to end. Its main protagonist from Genesis to Revelation is God. Because the events reported are supposed to unfold over time, from God=s creation of the universe, to his redemption of mankind, the whole scriptural message, as a predication or statement from God to man, is a narrative. Because the story claims to be true, it claims to be a true narrative.
I first became impressed with 2 Peter 1:3-15 shortly after leaving my engineering career at Honeywell in October of 1992 to enter into full-time ministry. In the fall of 1994 I joined the staff of what was to become Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, and in the 1995 – 1996 time frame I developed a discipleship manual entitled The Seven Realities of Discipleship (The 7Rs Manual for short) somewhat based upon this passage.
The gamut of views concerning the conquest of Ai narrative in the 7th and 8th chapters of the Book of Joshua can be summarized as follows: the narrative is factual, having the weight of eye witness testimony; or, it is an aetiological legend, compiled long after the fact, either just before or during the Babylonian exile for the purpose of justifying Israel’s presence in the land of Canaan; or, it is a pernicious myth, deceptively and skillfully fabricated to correspond with the material time-space context in which it is alleged to have occurred. Is there a method that is capable of objectively arbitrating among these three views?
The Rich Man’s Catalog of First Concerns are, “The Symbols of Wealth,” “Superfluity,” and “Vanity” So, we learn the material mind = ROOTED IN THE SELF That behooves the question: What is in my catalog of First Concerns?
The call of Jeremiah in Jeremiah chapter one is significant to the modern believer for many reasons. One reason is that the way in which God called His servant to a particular task can be generalized in such a way that we can apply it to the call of God to an individual today.
The book of Romans is the infusion of the thought and intentions of God into a Gentile worldview; or more properly, into a Gentile cosmology. This cosmology had formed the framework of the way they thought about everything, and God was calling them out of it into absolute obedience to Him.
The problem of human standardization exists because, quite in contrast to what is said in Romans 11:33-36, man sets himself up as the standard and context against which all other things are judged. In Romans we see the existence of an uncontexted spiritual reality, in which we see four aspects of the limitations of human standardization. The power of a deep presence/deep reality stands also in contrast and opposition to the ideology of contextualization of which man believes himself not only capable but also empowered by.
Most Christians would say they believe that what the Bible would say about a situation is superior to other sources of information. However, in practice, most Christians do not “inquire of the Lord” because they believe they have the ability to make decisions.
